1927 revisited

My latest investment of vintage sewing books turned out to be well worth the money (a pretty penny, too) if just for the terrific images. One of my many ideas for these books are to take some of these images and project and paint them onto pieces of wood for the baby's room decor. All I need to do is get a good color palette that would be appropriate for the time period.

What I adore about some of these designs is the sheer simplicity. These kimono dresses are often made out of a single piece of material. I wondered if something so simple - crude, if you will - would look that good in real life. I happened to come across a linen article of the same basic design at a thrift store (although it buttoned in the crotch as a undergarment) for about $4 and couldn't resist. It is still a bit big on Isabel but absolutely darling.

happy cake

Here, today, is my first attempt at a fondant cake and decorator tips. I would have made more variety in size of flowers and details, but I was in a HUGE rush trying to get everything done with my 2 year-old, pick up the birthday girl (it is now 14) and be ready for the East Coast field trip conference, followed by the parent/teacher conference. Craaaazy day - but the cake thing was a lot of fun and I may try more of it and perhaps even take a class or two in the future. I can see myself making huge extravagant wedding cakes on Fridays - just for fun.

consistency is the hob-goblin of the feeble minded

This is a test run on a new blog I creating in the hopes of keeping my business and personal stuff a bit separate, however, it is inevitable that the twin shall meet constantly on some level. I want to have a sort of journal for posting inspirational images - sort of a forum for eye candy. Speaking of which, I desperately want to know where to get this or a similar pattern for shoes. Of course, the fabrics..... and combination of materials are what make this stuff art.

Speaking of business, I keep getting wholesale inquiries - almost weekly - and just got wind of someone who wants to market my business into a multi-million dollar corporation - ha ha. That would be nice... I certainly have my work cut out for me. Focus stifles my creativity!
